For the past week our class has been using iPads from the library and using them to research our winter Olympic sport. We are doing this because the Winter Olympics comes every 4 years and there really is no other time we can do this. There are so many Winter Olympic sports. There's curling, biathlon, figure skating, skeleton, snowboard, hockey and so much more! We are looking up there history about the sport and equipment and famous from the U.S.people who have played the sport. We are going to be putting up flags that represent each country around our class room and we will put medals by their flag as they earn them. We are going to be keeping track. The Winter Olympics start on Feb. 6 2014.

Blanket Making
Last week our class collected money. In all we collected about 90 dollars. We used that money to buy fleece to make blankets. This morning the whole class and two other students made blankets out of fleece. We cut strips of fleece and ties them together. I thought it was awesome and I made the blanket with Hannah, Alex ,and Paulina. We made two blankets. All together our class made 9 blankets. THEY WERE SO SOFT!!!! We will be donating our blankets to families in need.

Long Division
This week we are learning how to divide mentally. It's hard at first but, we are getting the hang of it . Now that we are learning more about what we are doing it's MUCH easier than how we started . Now that we understand more , it's actually kind of fun now that it is easier . One of the things that I learned is that sometimes we have to cross off extra zeros that cancel each other when we divide.

Class Dojo
Ask your children about how Class Dojo works in our classroom! Lots of students are working hard to contribute positive points to our classroom total. Once we reach 500 points, students will earn their first reward: no shoes in the classroom for a day! Students each have their own login information so they can monitor their behavior from home! Ask them for a sneak peak!

Factor Trees
This week for math we learned something knew.We learned about factor trees. We always had to find the factors first. And then we had to multiply the numbers that we used.I thought it was easy at first then got harder. When we got done with the problem the answer looked weird at first but then it made sense. I thought it was really cool how it looked like a tree.
